First oncologist to lead the preeminent medical organization will share her perspective on the Oncology Care Model

MALVERN, PA (June 13, 2018) — With a continued focus on providing practical and clinically relevant oncology education, HMP, a leading healthcare event and education company, today announced that it has selected Barbara L. McAneny, MD, FASCO, MACP, a board-certified medical oncologist/hematologist and President of the American Medical Association (AMA), to deliver the keynote address during its Clinical Pathways Congress, October 26-28, in Boston.

As the first oncologist to lead the AMA, Dr. McAneny will share her perspective on the journey that led to the foundation of the Oncology Care Model. Utilized by hundreds of practices and multiple payers across the country, the Oncology Care Model has proven to be successful in improving patient care, outcomes, and satisfaction, while dramatically reducing costs.

“It is an honor to have Dr. McAneny address our attendees during the Clinical Pathways Congress,” said Randy Robbin, President, NACCME, the medical education subsidiary of HMP. “This audience is comprised of senior stakeholders interested in gathering best practices around the design, application, and measurement of pathways, so there is no more fitting choice for a keynote speaker than an oncologist who has pioneered the successful implementation of a pathways program in support of a value-based model — one that is focused on improved care quality, outcomes, and costs.”

Dr. McAneny will share insights and best practices from her experience as one of the earliest adopters of clinical pathways while outlining her vision as the newly elected AMA President of applying a value-based approach to other areas of medicine.

“I am pleased to be delivering the keynote address during the third annual Clinical Pathways Congress,” said Dr. McAneny. “With an audience comprised of stakeholders who are invested in applying pathways to achieve high-value, efficient, and patient-centered care, I very much look forward to the interaction and resulting discussion and believe that in a changing healthcare environment, exchanges of this kind will greatly benefit the practice of medicine as it makes the shift to a more value-based approach.”

The Clinical Pathways Congress is a three-day conference that attracts nearly 300 stakeholders throughout the healthcare spectrum, including cancer center directors, clinical pathway directors, medical and pharmacy benefit managers, pathway vendors, and payers. The 3rd annual meeting will take place October 26-28, 2018 in Boston. To learn more, visit clinicalpathwayscongress.com.
