Since joining HMP Global in January, PR and Corporate Communications Manager Sandi Beason has learned a lot and enjoyed being part of the team. “I love working for a company that is having an impact,” she said. “Healthcare professionals all over the world come to us for continuing education. This ripples out to their patients, and patient populations. That is powerful.” One area that is especially meaningful is HMP Global’s efforts to prevent suicides, through its publications and programs including Suicide Prevention 360 and partnerships with nonprofit organizations with similar missions. For Beason, it’s personal. “In 2001, my sister took her own life,” she said. “It was unexpected and devastating for our family. No one should have to go through that, and it means a lot to me that my company devotes resources for suicide prevention initiatives.” Her sister was a student in the nursing program at Northwest Mississippi Community College at the time, and the following spring, the family honored her by establishing the Pennie McKinney Memorial Scholarship at the school. “Through the generous contributions from people throughout the community, a few years ago the scholarship became endowed,” Beason said. “It is now a permanent, annual award. And this year will mark the 20th year it is administered. It’s a wonderful way to honor her life and leave a lasting legacy.” Beason lives in North Carolina with her family, where they are active in the local community. They are avid hikers and enjoy visiting farmers’ markets and local vineyards. We appreciate Sandi and having her on the HMP Global team!
