Expanded collaboration underscores organizations’ commitment to providing exceptional education for the global wound care community

Malvern, PA (December 11, 2018) — HMP, a leader in healthcare events and education and the creator and organizer of the annual Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring meeting, today announced a new five-year agreement with the Wound Healing Society (WHS), the premier scientific organization focused on wound healing. The partnership includes continuing to offer a co-located meeting as well as identifying strategic opportunities to grow the field of wound care.

HMP and the WHS formed the strategic partnership in 2007, bringing the wound health community together for the SAWC Spring and the WHS annual meetings. Over the past 12 years, these co-located programs have provided the entire wound health team — physicians, podiatrists, nurses, physical therapists, researchers, scientists, and dietitians — access to key thought leaders and clinical educators to support a shared mission of improving patient care.

"For more than 30 years, the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring has been the premier wound meeting and the Wound Healing Society (WHS) the premier scientific organization in wound care,” said Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., PhD, FAAD, Co-Chair, SAWC Spring, Chairman and Harvey Blank Professor, Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida. “The renewed commitment of the WHS to co-locate with SAWC not only brings two great groups together focused on delivering the very best education to clinicians, but also creates a unified voice in wound care that is critical to advancing the field.”

“In our 12th year of collaboration with HMP, the WHS is looking forward to closer alignment, more synergy, and great future success in our efforts to improve wound care for our patients through excellence in science and education,” said Sashwati Roy, PhD, WHS President, Professor of Surgery, Director, Clinical Research IUH Comprehensive Wound Center (CWC), Indiana Center for Regenerative Medicine and Engineering (ICRME), Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana.

“HMP is honored to continue to build on this important partnership with the Wound Healing Society,“ said Peter Norris, Executive Vice President, HMP Global. “The agreement is a reflection of the commitment both groups have to the wound care community. We are working together to meet the needs of clinicians today — and tomorrow — by delivering the most innovative and up-to-date evidence-based research and practical education at SAWC to improve patient care and outcomes around the world.”

This year’s SAWC Spring and WHS annual meetings will take place May 7–11, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas.

Highlights of the 2019 meeting include six dynamic topic areas to enhance medical education for all aspects of wound care:

  • Leading Edge Innovation — new insights and therapies in ulcer detection and wound infection;

  • Expanded WHS Program — advances in technologies, bioengineering, and military medicine;

  • Wound Care 360° View — from diabetic care to patient behavioral factors;

  • Outpatient Care of Wounds  — skin grafting and cellular tissue-based products;

  • Science and Technology — clinical research, genetics, and patient care; and

  • Lower Extremity Wounds — managing pain in the opioid era and vascular assessment and interventions.

Further demonstrating HMP’s commitment to practical wound care education, the company also recently announced the launch of the Post-Acute Care Symposium (PACS). The 2-day meeting, taking place May 9–10, 2019, also will be co-located with SAWC Spring in San Antonio. PACS is designed exclusively for nurses in post-acute care settings; participants will benefit from the synergy with SAWC Spring through opportunities to access the world’s largest wound care exhibit hall and to network with wound care experts in all aspects of the field.
