HMP Announces Live Presentation of the Sherman Prize for Excellence in Crohn’s and Colitis During the 2018 Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Conference
April 10, 2018
Nominations are being accepted through April 25 for this annual award honoring outstanding contributions in IBD with a financial prize and national recognition
MALVERN, PA (April 10, 2018) – To further recognize exceptional, groundbreaking contributions in the area of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research, HMP, a leading healthcare event and education company, today announced it has invited the Bruce and Cynthia Sherman Charitable Foundation to hold its annual Sherman Prize for Excellence in Crohn’s and Colitis awards presentation on December 13, 2018, the first day of HMP’s Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (AIBD) conference in Orlando, Florida.
As a family touched by Crohn’s disease, Bruce and Cynthia Sherman created the prize in 2016 as a way to increase focus on pioneering contributions in IBD. The Sherman Prize is the first award of its kind to reward healthcare providers, medical researchers, educators and public health advocates for outstanding achievements in the areas of IBD patient care, medical research, public service, and professional and public education. Two prizes of $100,000 each are awarded annually to individuals with extraordinary track records of achievement, and a $25,000 Sherman Emerging Leader Prize is awarded to an individual who demonstrates high potential.
“It is an honor to present these prestigious awards during AIBD,” said Dan Lowrie, president, Imedex, a wholly owned subsidiary of HMP, and organizer of AIBD. “AIBD and the Sherman Prize share a common goal — to advance the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. We’re proud to host the awards and help provide Sherman Prize recipients the recognition they deserve. This Prize will surely inspire others in the field and promote even more exciting outcomes in the future.”
“We are very pleased to present this year’s awards in front of such a broad cross-section of the IBD community,” said Bruce Sherman. “It is a great opportunity for these IBD professionals to hear about pioneering research and how their peers are personally making a difference in their patients’ lives. We believe that by consistently elevating great work, we are creating a ripple effect that encourages future advances in the field and the science that could lead to a cure.”
AIBD is a three-day, multi-track, scientific conference that attracts more than 2,000 clinicians, including adult and pediatric gastroenterologists, internists, surgeons, nurse practitioners, and other allied healthcare professionals. The 17th meeting will take place December 13-15, 2018 in Orlando, Florida. To learn more about AIBD, visit advancesinibd.com.
