Major conferences drew support from healthcare professionals, researchers, and corporate sponsors; participation levels showcase a full, post-pandemic return to in-person meetings.
MALVERN Pa., (June 8, 2023) — HMP Global, the leading omnichannel healthcare events and education company, saw record-breaking attendance, abstract submissions, and corporate support for its major spring 2023 meetings, signaling a strong return to in-person events and reaching pre-pandemic participation levels.
The mix of industry-leading, established meetings and new offerings this spring include Rx and Illicit Drug Summit and Psych Congress NP Institute held in April; the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring | WHS | DLS and Senior Living Executive Conference, held in May, and Psych Congress Elevate and West Coast Symposium which took place in early June. Combined, the meetings drew more than 12,000 clinicians, researchers, exhibitors and other supporters for world-class educational and networking opportunities.
“Our communities were hungry for the chance to meet in person after the COVID-19 lockdowns and converting conferences to a virtual format for two years,” said Jeff Hennessy, Chairman and CEO, HMP Global. “There is great value in bringing people together to collaborate, engage, and gain strategies and best practices that ultimately improve care for patients around the world. It is exciting to see our meetings return to pre-pandemic attendance levels at this scale, and an honor to know that clinicians continue to choose HMP Global as their trusted source for continuing education.”
Overall, HMP Global’s full slate of meetings for 2023 is experiencing an across-the-board surge in the number of research abstracts submitted for presentation. So far this year, multiple conferences (including SAWC Spring | WHS | DLS) have received record-breaking numbers of abstract submissions, and the upcoming World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer, to be held June 28 – July 1 in Barcelona, also broke records for its 500-plus abstract submissions received.
“Many clinical trials require in-person visits to clinics, and this was largely halted during the pandemic,” said Randy Robbin, president HMP Education, the medical education arm of HMP Global. “Now, research is proceeding as normal again and the work that was paused during the pandemic is concluding. We are seeing some exciting, practice-changing research results presented at our meetings this year. This provides a golden opportunity for clinicians to learn and grow professionally.”
The newest addition to HMP Global’s Psych Congress portfolio of events, the Psych Congress NP Institute, held its inaugural meeting in April in Boston. It was the most successful event launch in company history, breaking records for first-year attendance with more than 800 nurse practitioners, corporate sponsors, and supporters participating. Led by the world-class experts of Psych Congress, the event featured psychopharmacology education, deep dives into foundational principles, and terminology on treatment, disease, and medication classes.
“The NP Institute was an awesome experience,” said attendee Jordan Madden, APRN, PrairieCare Medical Group. “I’m in my first year of practice and I learned so much great information that I can immediately implement into my practice.”
HMP Global’s 2023 Rx Summit, America’s largest meeting focused on the drug misuse and overdose crisis, drew more than 3,500 participants “from federal to family” to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta in April. At this meeting, Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), announced from the main stage that the Biden-Harris administration officially designated fentanyl adulterated or associated with xylazine as an emerging threat to the United States. It was the first time this designation authority was used since it passed congress in 2018.
“Rx Summit was a great opportunity to meet people and network,” said Guanhui Chen, a post-graduate year 1 pharmacy resident and a presenter at Rx Summit. “This is the biggest conference I have ever attended, and our session on xylazine was very well received. People approached us afterward and asked questions for 45 minutes. … It was an honor to be here.”
While SAWC Spring’s partnership with the Wound Healing Society (WHS) is a long-standing one, 2023 was the first year the meeting also co-located with the Diabetic Limb Salvage (DLS) conference. This year’s meeting drew nearly 3,000 clinicians, faculty presenters, researchers, and supporters including 165 exhibiting companies and sponsors.
More than 500 abstracts were submitted to SAWC Spring | WHS | DLS, and 450 posters displayed late-breaking wound care research, new advances, strategies, and techniques to improve care and outcomes for patients. The meeting is dedicated to the research, management, treatment, and prevention of wounds; and through its partnership with DLS, this year’s event featured more limb salvage-focused topics in the educational program.
In its second year organizing the Senior Living Executive Conference, the official meeting of Argentum, HMP Global reported more than 2,000 participants and nearly 300 sponsors at its 2023 meeting in New Orleans. The Senior Living Executive Conference educational program focused on the latest policy developments, emerging issues impacting seniors and senior care facilities, and updates from experts on what the future holds for the industry.
“I’d highly recommend the Senior Living Executive Conference to anyone who wants to learn more about the senior living industry, network with peers, create relationships, and to move the industry forward,” said attendee Christy Van Der Westhuizen, SVP of Sales and Marketing, Legend Senior Living.
While the record participation levels are expected to continue at HMP Global’s in-person meetings for the remainder of 2023, the company also continues a robust offering of virtual meetings across a range of therapeutic areas. The virtual programs ensure affordable, accessible options for clinicians to obtain continuing education credits and further their professional growth and development.
