When Kathleen Hines joined the HMP Global team three years ago, she brought a wealth of experience to her role as director, educational development. “I have worked in the CME industry for 15 years, primarily as a medical writer and an editorial director,” she said. “Before that, I wrote and edited educational curricula, technical manuals, grant proposals, and newsletters for an international aid organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.” Along the way she also earned a master’s degree from JHU and spent five months working as a short-term editorial consultant at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, at the invitation of the Baltimore-Luxor-Alexandria Sister City Committee. At HMP Education she leads a team of medical writers who develop grant proposals in support of proprietary meetings and other educational offerings through industry-supported CME sessions and activities. “Kathleen is a consummate professional and a motivational leader to her team, keeping a cool head in stressful situations,” said her co-worker Mary Johnson. “Kathleen has a vast knowledge of many things and is always generous in sharing her insight with others. She is a kind and hard-working colleague who is treasured by her team.” Hines said that quite a lot of work goes into CME grant proposal writing, including extensive research into the latest clinical developments across a wide range of therapeutic areas as well as the clinical practice patterns and educational needs of learners. “With each proposal, our goal is to craft a compelling narrative that clearly articulates the need for targeted education in a given topic for a given audience,” she said. “Our team also works closely with the broader grants and education departments to support business development, content development and delivery, and outcomes studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of our programs.” Outside of work, Hines enjoys spending time with her two children, and she loves to cook, read, and travel.  Thank you to Kathleen for all your hard work and contributions to the team!
