Dr. Gina Landinez: CIO 2025 highlights advanced techniques in tumor ablation, embolization, and targeted therapies

Course Director, 2025 Symposium on Clinical Interventional Oncology

As new minimally invasive techniques and technologies emerge, CIO provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience for practitioners at all levels.

The Symposium on Clinical Interventional Oncology (CIO) has always been a pivotal platform for sharing knowledge and fostering innovation, but CIO 2025 promises to be the best yet.

CIO 2025, set for October 17-19 at Loews Miami Beach, will offer a comprehensive curriculum for practitioners at every stage of their interventional oncology (IO) journey. As a new course director, I am thrilled to be part of this incredible event, building on the outstanding work of previous course directors in advancing the study and practice of interventional oncology.

As new minimally invasive techniques and technologies emerge, CIO provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience for practitioners at all levels. Led by top experts, the symposium delivers practical, immediately applicable insights that enhance patient outcomes through advanced techniques in tumor ablation, embolization, and targeted therapies. By attending CIO, clinicians can gain the skills, connections, and expertise needed to drive innovation and excellence in cancer care.

I am excited especially about the musculoskeletal (MSK) pain and palliation sessions. These new frontiers of IO continue to grow, and with it so does the evolution of science and need for exchange of information. I hope to bring useful information, thoughtful discussions and conversation that applies to interventional radiologists practicing in various settings.

CIO 2025 will be a hub for driving advancements in the IO field. It will provide specialists with opportunities to stay abreast of technological advancements, integrate multidisciplinary approaches and adopt innovative practices to enhance patient outcomes. My goal is for attendees to leave the conference equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to improve patient care in their practices.

Educational Program

Peppered throughout the CIO 2025 agenda is real-world education through presentations, hands-on workshops and case reviews.

New this year is a pre-conference on Y90 dosimetry set for October 16. Designed for final-year interventional radiology trainees and early-career attendings, this pre-conference will provide an in-depth exploration of clinically relevant dosimetry models for treatment planning. Participants will gain practical experience using MIM Y90 Dosimetry Software and the Cancer Y90 App, simulating treatment planning across multiple therapeutic intent cases. This interactive workshop aims to equip attendees with the skills and knowledge necessary to optimize Y90 treatment planning for improved patient outcomes.

Other topics covered during the conference include:

  • The year in review in interventional oncology;
  • Morbidity and mortality in IO;
  • Fundamentals in IO; and
  • Interventions for prostate, pancreatic and breast cancers.
Hands-on Training and Networking

CIO 2025 is committed to providing valuable experiences for fellows and residents, helping to shape their careers in IO. Through robust hands-on workshops and relevant up-to-date content, residents and fellows will feel equipped to take on new cases, explore new techniques and incorporate new technologies. Experienced IO practitioners find CIO to be an ideal opportunity to network with colleagues and learn about the latest research and innovations.

CIO is crucial for medical professionals addressing the growing need for minimally invasive, image-guided cancer treatments. As interventional oncology evolves, clinicians face challenges in integrating new techniques. By fostering collaboration, the symposium equips attendees with the latest in tumor ablation, embolization and targeted drug delivery, ultimately improving patient care and shaping the future of IO.
