Co-Founder, Wound Certification Prep Course

Mobile wound care providers need solid training that’s current, evidence-based, and interdisciplinary. That’s where WCPC really shines.

Healthcare is evolving fast, and so is the way we deliver wound care.

With more patients living longer with complex chronic conditions, the demand for high-quality wound management has never been greater. One of the most exciting shifts we’re seeing in healthcare delivery is the rise of mobile wound management services, bringing expert care directly to patients where they live.

As a Co-Founder of the Wound Certification Prep Course (WCPC), I’ve watched this movement grow and felt a renewed purpose in our education mission: to support clinicians from an interdisciplinary perspective in gaining the foundational knowledge they need to confidently manage wounds in real-world settings.

A Clear Mission

When we launched WCPC back in 2004, the focus was simple: help clinicians prepare for their wound certification exams. But over time, we started hearing a different story from our learners.

More and more told us they were joining the course to update their clinical knowledge, not just to pass a test, but to provide better care. In fact, we started seeing entire wound teams enroll together to get on the same page with current best practices.

And that makes perfect sense. Most of us didn’t learn this kind of wound management in our original training.

Those of us who have been studying wound management for decades have been on a consistent learning trajectory to keep up with science and the consensus guidance for evidence-based care. This continued learning is necessary to provide wound management to our patients who are counting on us.

To this point, we’ve had clinicians attend the course multiple times, either for a fast-paced refresher for wound management clinical practice, or to prepare for their recertification exams.

Meeting Patients Where They Are

According to the CDC, more than 38 million Americans have diabetes, a number that continues to grow alongside the aging population and increasing rates of other chronic illnesses that negatively impact the skin (think: cardiovascular, liver, kidney — all the major organ systems that become impaired and collectively contribute to skin vulnerability).

With this comes a sharp rise in hard-to-heal wounds. I can confidently say that I’m seeing more lower extremity vascular wounds in long-term care than at any time in my 40-plus years of being in healthcare.

And while specialized wound centers are valuable, not everyone can get there. That’s where mobile wound management services can step in, and where the need for high-quality, standardized education becomes essential.

Why WCPC Works for Mobile Wound Care Teams

Mobile wound care providers need solid training that’s current, evidence-based, and interdisciplinary. That’s where WCPC really shines.

Several forward-thinking organizations have already licensed the WCPC course as part of their onboarding strategy for new providers wound management clinical education, including:

  • Advantage Surgical and Wound Care
  • Advanced Wound Care and Healing LLC
  • Elevat3 Wound Healing LLC
  • Enhanced Wound Care LLC
  • Global Open Wound Care, LLC
  • Kane Wound Care LLC
  • Personic Health
  • Quality Surgical Management

These groups recognize that the WCPC doesn’t just help providers earn their certifications, it helps them think critically, apply real-world knowledge, and supports the delivery of consistent, high-quality wound management across settings.

Nurse practitioners from Global Open Wound Care have attended WCPC in-person at Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC), and through on-demand online education sessions. They told us the course helped deepen their clinical understanding and directly improved their ability to deliver evidence-based care.

Dr. Tara Frazier, CCO at Advantage Surgical Wound Care and a stellar wound management educator herself, stated: “WCPC is a game-changer for our providers who are pursuing board certification in wound care. Our providers consistently praise how the course breaks down topics into clear, manageable concepts and helps prepare them for the challenging exam questions and real-life scenarios. It’s more than just a prep course; it’s a professional catalyst.”

What Makes WCPC Different

This course is designed to build clinical confidence and team alignment. We start with the basics: how to assess the whole patient (not just the hole in the patient), the importance of wound healing cellular biology (the area where most clinicians are challenged on the exams), the phases of healing, recognizing when wounds are stalled and why, and select interventions that match the patient’s wound closure needs.

We emphasize that dressings don’t heal wounds, the patients’ body heals their wounds.

WCPC helps clinicians make that critical mindset shift. We must determine why wounds are NOT healing by looking at ALL of the organ systems, then remove or improve the clinical barriers to the best of our ability.

We also need to recognize when wounds will NOT heal due to the patients overall failing physiology. The WCPC also discusses non-healing and when to move to palliative wound care practices.

And we’re proud to say WCPC is interdisciplinary at its core. With nine expert faculty members, representing medicine, nursing, physical therapy, and more, we bring a balanced, practical perspective to every topic. The content is aligned with the CWCA, CWS, and CWSP exam outlines, so learners are prepared for both certification and clinical care.

Supporting Your Journey in Wound Care

At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to support your growth as a wound management professional. Whether you’re new to the field, transitioning into mobile services, or just ready to refresh your skills, the WCPC is here to guide your next steps.

And we’ve seen it work.

“Completing the Wound Certification Prep Course significantly enhanced my wound care education and management,” says Kristen Leizear, Clinical Director at Personic Health. “The course provided in-depth knowledge of wound etiology, proper assessment techniques, and evidence-based strategies for preparing wounds to promote optimal healing. It empowered me to pass my CWCN-AP exam on the first try!”

If you’re leading or growing a mobile wound care team and want to align your staff with solid, consistent training, we’d love to be part of your journey.
